Testing Resources
ACCUPLACER
ACCUPLACER is a series of tests that evaluate students’ skills in reading, writing, and math to determine if additional support will be required for enrolling in credit bearing courses or workforce programs.
Students will typically take the ACCUPLACER test through technical colleges to determine admissions or class placement.
ACT
The ACT is an assessment designed to measure how well you understand what you’ve learned in high school. It covers coursework in English, mathematics, reading, and science—with an optional writing test. Scores are used by colleges and universities in the admission process.
The ACT is designed for students in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. Most students choose to take the ACT in their junior or senior year, after they’ve completed most of their core coursework. However, students who want to earn college credit in high school or enroll in honors classes often choose to take the ACT their sophomore year.
Visit ACT.org for information about test dates, registration, and test preparation resources. Students are responsible for paying registration fees.
Students who receive free or reduced lunch can qualify for fee waivers. Students must see their counselors to get a lunch verification form. Once that form is confirmed by the cafeteria manager, counselors will process the waiver. Counselors are unable to give out fee waivers the same day as the lunch verification is received. We ask students to give us 48 hours to receive this information.
ASVAB
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a standardized test that helps determine a person's eligibility and suitability for military service. It's also used to predict future academic and occupational success.
Monroe Area High School offers the ASVAB on campus at least twice per school year. Contact counselor Kim Brown at kibrown@walton.k12.ga.us if you are interested in taking the test at school.
If you are interested in taking the ASVAB in order to apply for the military, you will need to contact a military recruiter. To find a recruiter near you, go to www.todaysmilitary.com/request-information.
SAT Suite of Assessments
SAT
The SAT is a standardized test that measures a student's readiness for college. It's a multiple-choice exam that's used by most colleges and universities for admissions. It can also help students see if AP classes would be a good fit and connect with colleges and scholarships.
The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors.
The SAT uses the Bluebook App for digital testing. The Bluebook App is installed on all Walton County issued student chromebooks. To access the app:
- Sign out of your chromebook
- Go to "Apps" on the sign in screen
- Select Bluebook and log in with your College Board account information

PSAT/NMSQT
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is given throughout October. Schools decide who can take it and when. For MAHS, all sophomores are automatically registered to take the test. Freshmen and Juniors can register to take the test for a small fee.
Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet other program entry requirements specified in the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide will enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
