Dual Enrollment

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual enrollment, also known as concurrent enrollment, allows high school students to take college courses while still in high school. Students can earn college credit and high school diploma credits through dual enrollment.

Georgia’s Dual Enrollment Program offers students the opportunity to experience college courses and begin their college academic career while still in high school and provides for standard tuition, mandatory fees and required books.

Student must meet state requirements and school level requirements to participate in the program. Your counselor can help you determine if dual enrollment is a good fit for you.

Is DE right for you?

Step by Step Guide

  1. Schedule a time to meet with your MAHS Counselor. Please note that college deadlines are different than MAHS deadlines. Before the meeting, make sure you know which DE College you wish to attend (make sure you meet the admissions criteria) and DE courses you may want to to take versus which MAHS courses you want.
  2. Student and Parent must read the MAHS Parent/Guardian and Student Responsibilities Form and then complete the MAHS Dual Enrollment Participation Agreement and return both to MAHS counselor.
  3. Take the SAT/ACT prior to the DE college application deadlines. You are responsible for sending your official test scores directly to the DE college. Some DE colleges may accept an ACCUPLACER placement test score in lieu of the SAT/ACT test scores for admissions.
  4. Student must complete the application on the college's website. The student applying is responsible for following the colleges application procedures and meeting all deadlines.
  5. Students create an account in GA Futures (www.gafutures.org) and complete the student and parent portion of the online funding application & Parent Participation Agreement PPA). Make sure to use your personal email address NOT your school email address. Click on the “Apply Now” Button and complete the funding application. The parent will receive the PPA in the email the student provided and must electronically sign the PPA before the High School Counselor can complete their part of the application. The funding application must be completed once every school year to ensure that the tuition of you DE college courses are covered.
  6. Submit your transcript to your college through GA Futures.
  7. After notification of college acceptance the student should email their high school counselor. The student is responsible for knowing the courses needed for graduation. The high school counselor can provide assistance if clarification is needed.
  8. Student will register for DE classes per instructions of the DE college. If a student needs assistance in registering they will need to contact their DE college advisor. Each college has a different process.
  9.    Student will submit their DE schedule to their high school counselor.  *DE courses will not be reflected on the students schedule  and DE funding will not be finalized by the high school counselor until the DE schedule has been received by the high school counselor.
